| Concept >>>interferences moroccan references in contemporary art Curator >Mohamed Rachdi «That may be the beneficial effect of the globalization of art and culture : not the lopping and erasing of differences, but the birth of new differences at best. Some pieces of work already allow to catch a glimpse of the possibillities thus offered.» Pierre Gaudibert. In this era of globalization, the production, diffusion and reception of contemporary art evolve more and more on a transterritorial scale. Contemporary art questions and investigates a transdisciplinary field. All the actors involved in art (artists, art critics, organizers, merchants, collectors, ) hail from different backgrounds. If some fear, and even sometimes denounce, the risk of its standardization - of its uniformization, cultivated on some networks of exhibition by those who are less interested in art than in power, politics and economics - none should be blind though. Those watching its productions will soon become aware that contemporary art offers a wide range of propositions. Far from being levelled down, it is polymorphus, rich and extremely varied. That profusion which characterizes contemporary art is due, among others, to its capacity of appropriation, assimilation and reinvestment of cultural elements coming from different periods and territories in the world. Once they are equipped with technical means, sometimes extremely sophisticated, once they have widened their plastic repertoire, their artistic and aesthetic interests, the contemporary artists seem to travel indifferently through time and space. As a result, they seem to benefit the opportunity to investigate a boundless field. They seem to feed on a multiplicity of borrowings, to imprint their mark on whatever they work with. Working "with" undoubtedly entails being worked "on" by the other's imaginative universe. And this is how this reciprocal action has become one of the most outstanding characteristics of contemporary art. And this is also how new dialogues between civilizational areas which can be very different and distant the ones from the others are generated. |
