moroccan references in contemporary art
Curator >Mohamed Rachdi

Dates : 7 and 8 september 2004
Place : Amphithéâtre Dewailly - place Dewailly - Amiens centre

What are the different methods of exploiting Moroccan references in contemporary artistic practices? What procedures (technical, plastic, conceptual ones, …) must the artists resort to in order to appropriate (or re-appropriate) these references? How are these brought into play in their artistic projects? What is their genuine status? What kind of relation do they keep with other references? What is at stake in these plastic and semantic procedures? Do these references – being of a Moroccan origin – go forth or against the contemporaneousness of these practises, forth or against their relevance as being inserted in the field of a-starting arts, and the efficiency of their artistic enunciation? What is the place given to the image of the works of these artists of Moroccan origin in national and international contemporary art exhibitions…? And then to what extent does their production contribute to the construction of the European cultural identity ?
This network of questions, relating to the following lines of producing, broadcasting and receiving art, will form the framework for a problem to study according to three axes :

> Artistic production and interfernces of references
> Artistic production and reception
> Identities, memories and aesthetics
