| >>>interferences moroccan references in contemporary art Curator>Mohamed Rachdi Ben Benaouisse - Born in 1971 in La Hestre (Belgium) - Lives and works in Gand (Belgium) " The polymorphous characteristic of Ben Benaouisse's work is striking at first sight. And that is due to the fact that, in his quest for identity, the artist mixes personal and collective memories. This is how he seems to build up his own Tower of Babel where signs, images and objects from different origins interfere only in order to reveal, to make more obvious, the course of an individual's life here and now, the course of the artist's own life. How is the multiplicity of languages articulated, the multiplicity of references expressed in his work ? The artist elaborates a documentation made of bits and pieces subjectively picked out in cultures of different natures, bits and pieces which belong to his everyday life and which he uses according to the rhetoric of parody " Mohamed Rachdi |
