| >>>interferences moroccan references in contemporary art Curator>Mohamed Rachdi Rim Laâbi - Born in 1973 in Rabat (Morocco) - Lives and works in Paris (France) "Rim Laâbi's work takes root in various grounds which intertwin the characteristic interlacings of the Arabo-islamic aesthetic as well as those of the paintings, among others, of Jackson Pollock or François Rouan. Her work thus becomes a complex material where is knitted a multiplicity of references closely linked to the places and events which have punctuated her life. The artist says : "Meeting others comes to meeting diverse plastic elements, composed of vegetable, animal and mineral matters, whether natural or manufactured. Those fragments are picked out from the places of my origins, from Morocco, Greece and France, the three places where I have spent parts of my life, respectively as a child, as a teenager and now as an adult. Those matters travel across countries, seas and skies before reaching their final their final destinations where they will undergo various mouldings, shapings and transformations " Mohamed Rachdi |
